Welcome to my new blog, Paris or Bust. This is (will be) a travel website, but maybe somewhat different than most travel sites. It is the story of my return to Paris, France. Certainly there will be photos of my travels, sites I hope to see or revisit, plus places that I have been. I will also write about the preparations for the trip, whether those are procuring a passport, booking flights, train tickets, or shopping for a travel wardrobe or luggage.
A Different Kind of Journey
My getting ready to go to Paris, however, entails much more than the usual trip planning. I am a 66-year-old woman with serious mobility issues. Just a little over a month ago an ambulance transported me to a local hospital. This occurred when I was so weak that I could no longer get off my bed. How totally helpless I felt — and scared! What would happen to me? What did happen was that my husband phoned the nurse hotline provided by our medical insurance company, and subsequently he called 911 for an ambulance. I went to the hospital’s emergency room and then was admitted to the hospital for a week with severe muscle weakness that was no doubt exacerbated by a urinary tract infection. Following my stay in the hospital, I spent 22 days in a rehab center receiving excellent physical and occupational therapy and wonderful care.
More About This Blog
I decided to start this blog so I can keep track of my progress. My therapists have given me exercises to do at home in addition to walking. Soon I plan to begin some kind of outpatient physical therapy. Maybe by writing about my journey, I can encourage others to pursue their dreams, as well as my remaining accountable and staying on track with my rehabilitation.
Blog posts, except for this one, are published in reverse chronological order. In other words, my most recent post will be at the top of the posts. Only this post will be above the most recent blog entry. Thus if you want to read about my journey from its beginning, you will need to go to the last post on the final page of blog posts.
There is a contact form available if you want to email me. Comments are moderated but are welcome on this site as long as they are not spam and are family-friendly. I look forward to hearing from you! Thank you for stopping by. Please visit again soon!
